Day 1 JOHANNESBURG to MPUMALANGA guided walk included [B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner] Departing from Johannesburg at 06:30am we head east towards Mpumalanga. A landscape characterised by mountains, panoramic passes, valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests. We will camp the night in the old gold rush town of Pilgrims Rest, a living museum dating back to 1873. We explore the quaint town, visit Mac Mac falls and God’s Window viewpoint [camping – LD]

Day 2 & 3 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK Big game country – exciting game drives provide us with excellent game viewing. Spot lion, elephant, rhino and other animals in one of the last African wildernesses. Early morning & afternoon game drives get us close to the wildlife. [camping BLD ]

Day 4 KINGDOM OF SWAZILAND guided walk included The mountainous Kingdom of Swaziland, led by King Mswati III, is one of only 3 monarchies in Africa. Swazi’s are proud of their traditional lifestyle & cultures. We explore the Malolotja reserve on foot to enjoy the mountain scenery, rare birdlife, and the 95m high Malolotja waterfall. Day 5 & 6 ZULULAND After visiting craft markets near Mbabane, we re-enter South Africa. Mkuzi Game Reserve is a safe haven for the endangered black rhino. We have a full day to game drive and stop at waterhole hides and watch game come down to drink [ camping BLD ]

Day 7 & 8 DRAKENSBERG MOUNTAINS guided walk included Moving further south to the base of the Drakensberg (Dragon Mountains). We have two nights at the foot of the mountains allowing time for walking along beautiful mountain stream paths, looking for Bushman rock paintings or just enjoying spectacular views. [camping BLD ]

Day 9 & 10 LESOTHO guided walk included We travel through the towering red sandstone cliffs of Golden Gate en route to Lesotho. Quaint villages and towns offer interesting stops along the way. We cross the border and head to southern Lesotho to our overnight chalets at Malealea. This lodge nestled in the mountains forms our base for two nights. The next morning we are up early and spend the day trekking with a local guide and his pony through the rugged mountains. [chalets BLD ]

Day 11 KAROO NP Descending from the Lesotho highlands we make our way into the great Karoo. It covers most of central South Africa and is a vast semi desert. It has become famous for its sheep and ostrich farming industries, and roadside stalls selling handmade windmills. [guesthouse BL- ]

Day 12 ADDO ELEPHANT NP A conservation success, Addo Elephant N.P. offers a unique wildlife area, famous for the Addo Elephants. We head out on game drives in search of elephant, black rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. Evening viewing at the floodlit waterhole allows us to watch the nocturnal animals. . [ camping BLD ] Day 13 & 14 TSITSIKAMMA guided walk included Indigenous Tsitsikamma forests surround the campsite at Storms River mouth, and there are walks up the Storms River Gorge and along the rocky coastline. Day 15 WESTERN CAPE After visiting “The Heads” in Knysna, a town nestled on a tranquil lagoon we travel south along the Garden Route towards the famous wine regions of the Cape. We pass the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve and Threewaterkloof Dam before heading over Franschoek pass to our campsite near Franschhoek for the evening. [camping BLD ]

Day 16 & 17 CAPE TOWN We enjoy a morning walk in historic Franschhoek. Visit Stellenbosch, for wine tasting and a cellar tour. Explore Cape Town and the “mother city’s” many attractions; visit Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope, Chapman’s Peak drive, the harbour at Hout Bay, enjoy the famous beaches and the V&A Waterfront. Day 18 TOUR ENDS – TRANSFERS guided walk included We climb Table Mountain in the morning admiring the views over Table Bay and Cape Town. Spend the afternoon catching up on last minute curio shopping or just lazing on the beach absorbing the Cape’s sunshine. Tour ends at +/-18:00pm. [B – -]. Day 3 GARIEP RIVER We make our way into the more arid regions and upon entering Namibia, we camp at the Gariep River. Free time for swimming and relaxing or you can adventure down the river in canoes (own expense). [camping BLD]

Day 4 FISH RIVER CANYON We make our way to Fish River canyon, the second larg¬est canyon in the world. In the afternoon we watch as a spectacular sunset slips over the canyon’s rim.[camping BLD]

Day 5 – 6 NAMIB DESERT

guided walk includedTowering red sand dunes of Sossusvlei form the gateway into the Namib Desert. We will walk to Sossusvlei, explore Sesriem Canyon and watch dramatic sunsets over the world’s highest sand dunes. [camping BLD]

Day 7 – 8 SWAKOPMUND

Day 9 SPITZKOP

We move north along the arid coast to the Cape Cross seal colony before heading inland to set up camp under the Spitzkoppe, huge granite domes rising out of the desert. Enjoy a magnificent sunset. Day 10 UGAB WILDERNESS

guided walk includedOur next stop is the Brandberg where we camp next to the dry Ugab River, home to the rare desert elephants. We explore the mountains on foot with our local guides, who lead us through this region adorned with rock art. [camping BLD]

Day 11 – 12 ETOSHA NP

Etosha National Park, “the great white place of dry water”, in the game rich northwest corner of Namibia offers a variety of wildlife. We take game drives around the huge dry pan to find the elephants, herds of antelope and lions around the waterholes before we camp at Okaukuejo with its flood-lit waterhole. Day 13 WINDHOEK

The charm of the city of Windhoek lies in its harmonious blend of African and European cultures and the friendliness of its people. We visit the cosmopolitan capital and enjoy a restaurant meal (own expense). [guest house BL-]

Day 1 – 2 LIVINGSTONE

guided walk includedThe group will meet in Livingstone, in Zambia, at 14:00 where we have 2 days to explore Victoria Falls, a natural wonder of the world, plunging into the Zambezi Gorge. Day 3 KAFUE RIVER

A long drive takes us across the rolling Miombo forested hills of southern Zambia to the Kafue River where we camp the night. [camping BLD]

Day 4 – 5 LOWER ZAMBEZI CANOEING

Full day canoeing includedWe drive down into the Lower Zambezi Valley and spend two nights at our lodge on the banks of the river. Enjoy a full day canoeing down the Zambezi River, home of the tribal mythical god – Nyami Nyami. The river attracts elephants and other wildlife from the surrounding wilderness. After a day highlighted by bird watching and game viewing, relax around the campfire in the evening. [lodge BLD]

Day 6 LUSAKA

We head to Lusaka where we stock up on supplies in the bustling shops and markets of the Zambian capital. Taking the Great East Road we drive this afternoon until sunset. [camping BLD]

Day 7, 8, 9 SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

guided walk included Make our way down into “the valley” of the South Luangwa National Park. This wild and remote sanctuary is one of Africa’s finest wildlife sanctuaries, full of hippo, crocodiles, elephants, lion and leopard. We camp on the banks of the Luangwa River and explore the area on 2 game walks and an open 4WD game drive, with spotlights, to see nocturnal animals.

Day 10 – 11 LAKE MALAWI

Malawi “the warm heart of Africa”. We restock with fresh supplies in the markets of Lilongwe before heading to our camp on the beach at Lake Malawi. We’ll take a boat out to the islands to explore the fantastic bays and coves in the area. [camping BLD]

Day 12 – 13 TRANSIT MOZAMBIQUE

Diving availableHeading south again we enter Mozambique at Zobue border post. Making our way back over the Zambezi we travel through the Tete region, camping en route in this remote part of Mozambique. [camping BLD]

Day 14 – 15 BAZARUTO ISLANDS

Upon reaching the Indian Ocean we stay overnight in Vilankulo. We take a full day to explore the Magaruque Island on a local dhow, a traditional ocean going trade vessel. Beautiful blue sea, expansive white beaches and some excellent seafood available – what a day! [chalets Bx2 Lx2 Dx1]

Day 16 – 17 INHAMBANE

Dhow sail to island excursion includedArab influences are strong in Inhambane dating back to when slaves, ivory, gold and spices were traded. Explore Inhambane and its 200-year-old cathedral, before moving to our casitas (reed cabin) under the palms next to the beach. Dhow rides and scuba diving on coral reefs are available (own expense). Day 18 BILENE

Diving availableWe travel further south along the coast to the town of Bilene situated on the shores of the Uembje lagoon. The lagoon is 8km wide and 27km long with clear water and white, sandy beaches. We spend the afternoon exploring the lagoon with options of kayaking and snorkelling (own expense), and swimming in the shallow, calm waters. . [camping BL-]

Day 19 – 20 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

We travel through the Transfrontier Limpopo Park into Kruger National Park – visit big game country! Exciting game drives to spot lions, giraffe and the mighty elephant. Relaxing in the tranquil bush we experience a land forgotten by time, a true African wilderness. [camping BLD]

Day 21 JOHANNESBURG

After an early morning game drive we return to Johannesburg in the evening, sun-tanned, laid-back and ready to rejoin life. Tour ends @ 18:00. [- B–]

We pass Serowe, birthplace of Botswana’s first president, Sir Seretse Khama, on our way to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary. This 4300 hectare reserve situated on the Kalahari sandveld, has several natural waterholes and provides prime habitat for white rhino, zebra and wildebeest. Day 2 MAUN We drive through the Kalahari to Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. Situated on the banks of the Thamalakane River, Maun is a bustling frontier town where we prepare for the delta excursion. After setting up camp we have a relaxing afternoon at the swimming pool. [camping BL-]

Day 3, 4, 5 OKAVANGO DELTA

guided walk includedOur local guides will take us deep into the heart of the Okavango Delta on Makoro (dugout canoes). The delta forms as water flows from the Angolan highlands out over the Botswanan flat Kalahari Desert sands creating a delicate, green oasis for birds & wildlife. We will camp wild on remote islands in this amazingly dynamic environment & enjoy bush walks, bird watching & swimming in the clear water. Camping with our local guides we learn more about their lifestyle & culture. We return to Maun in the late afternoon of day 5 and have time for an optional (own expense) game flight over the Okavango, which will reveal a different aspect of the delta. [camping Bx3, Lx3, Dx2]

Day 6 – 9 MOREMI & SAVUTI

4wd open vehicle We have 4 nights in these conservation areas with time to explore the various habitats. We spend our time on game drives watching the plentiful wildlife including wild dog, elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion & other game.

Moremi Game Reserve rates as one of the leading wildlife areas of the world and we take our open 4WD vehicle into Moremi for fantastic game viewing! Grasslands, floodplains, forests, lily lagoons and winding water channels combine to form a variety of game viewing habitats.

Moving north over the sand ridge and into the Mababe depression we arrive at the Savuti Marsh. This open grassland area attracts herds of zebra and wildebeest, which in turn draw the large lion prides for which Savuti is famous. The waterhole near camp is also a favourite drinking point for many elephant and the sunsets here are fantastic. [camping BLD]

Day 10 – 11 CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

4wd open vehicleThe Chobe River flows lazily along the northern boundary of the Chobe National Park attracting some of the largest herds of elephant in Africa. In the early morning we search for game and return to camp for brunch. The late afternoon game viewing “sundowner” cruise is a highlight as we see the mighty elephant herds returning to the Chobe River to quench their thirst. We camp at Kasane on the Chobe River for night 11. [camping Bx2 Lx2 Dx1]

Day 12 – 13 VICTORIA FALLS / LIVINGSTONE

guided walk includedWe camp for 2 nights in Zambia near Livingstone town on the banks of the Zambezi River. Enjoy a spectacular walk through tropical vegetation to the very edge of the “Mosi oa Tunya” or “the smoke that thunders” – Victoria Falls. Opportunities to white water raft on the mighty Zambezi River, Bungi Jump, or take a “flight of angels” (own expense). [camping Bx2 – -]

Day 14 LIVINGSTONE – TOUR ENDS
